Medical Instrument Technician (Electroencephalography/EEG)

The work of this position involves performance of a wide range of sophisticated diagnostic procedures and therapeutic techniques representing important components of the care of many patients.
Incumbent consistently delivers high quality studies for the most complex and non-routine procedures in difficult or demanding environments such as research, intraoperative monitoring, intensive care monitoring, awake and sleep recordings, portable recordings, electrocerebral silence recordings (ECS), ambulatory EEG recordings, Evoked Potential (EP) and Long Terms Epilepsy Monitoring (LTM).
He/she works with the Neurosurgery nurse liaison, vascular nurse liaison and medical administrative staff to coordinate scheduling of their patients for testing.
Procedures are tailored to clinical questions to be answered and may require additional monitors, electrodes, or other devices as clinically indicated.
Incumbent recognizes and reports obvious and subtle abnormalities during the procedure which may require intervention and brings to the attention of the supervisor and physician.
He/she will highlight portions of the recording of clinical importance, for review by the clinical neurophysiologist and will accurately describe the concurrent behavior of the patient.
Incumbent must provide positive interaction with other health care staff to inform of the indications for testing; the value, possible outcomes, and limitations of testing; and the policies of the laboratory are expected.
He/she works with and assists in the establishment of a completely integrated treatment and examination program while evaluating new products and equipment making recommendations for purchase to improve operations.
The incumbent of this position will be responsible for other duties as assigned within the scope of this position which include but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct routine maintenance and adjustment checks on medical equipment.
- Recognize and troubleshoot equipment failures communicating with manufacturer technical support to fix equipment problems and communicate with Bio-medical engineering to fix equipment problems.
- Interpret testing data to provide information for medical or surgical staff during testing procedures.
- Review planned intraoperative procedure and orders for monitoring to determine the structures at risks relative to patient history/pre-existing conditions and monitoring requested.
- Maintain proper level of supplies and equipment within the Laboratory.
Contacts internal services and outside vendors to order supplies, or request service on equipment.
